Big Sandy RECC employees helped provide more than $13,000 in donations of money and supplies for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Lexington and Louisville.
Donations totaling $13,282 came from employees of Big Sandy RECC and other Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to support Ronald McDonald Houses in Lexington and Louisville, which provide lodging and resources to families while a child is in a nearby hospital.
In addition to its employees, Big Sandy RECC also gave its members an opportunity to participate in the effort.
“The Ronald McDonald House Charities provide comfort to families during one of the most distressing times imaginable, when a child is sick and in the hospital,” said Natasha Wiley, Manager of Member Services. “Big Sandy RECC is proud of our employees who are helping Ronald McDonald Houses provide a ‘home-away-from-home’ for these families.”
In addition to monetary donations, employees provided goods such as compact refrigerators, snacks, health and beauty products, cleaning supplies and more.
“The outpouring from Big Sandy RECC’s employees and members was simply amazing,” said Wiley.
The effort was dubbed the Ronald McDonald House Wish List Drive and included a friendly competition among the 17 co-ops that make up Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to see whose employees could provide the most donations.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is an American independent nonprofit organization whose stated mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.
